Kurzfassung
Der Beitrag gedenkt des 150-jährigen Jubiläums der Österreichisch-Ungarischen Nordpolexpedition mit der Entdeckung von Franz-Josef Land. Neben den beiden Leitern Julius Payer und Carl Weyprecht, wird auch das Leben des Seeoffiziers Eduard Orel beschrieben.

Abstract
The article commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Austro-Hungarian North Pole Expedition with the discovery of Franz-Josef Land. In addition to the two directors, Julius Payer and Carl Weyprecht, the life of the naval officer Eduard Orel is also described.
