Vom CAD zum Modellierungsinstrument - Genesis und Status Quo des GIS an der Universität für Bodenkultur Wien

Abstract
In 1987 the GIS-Software ARCInfo was installed at the Universität für Bodenkultur Vienna (University of Agricultural Sciences, Vienna, BOKU). This first installation of ARC-Info-software at an Austrian university was the begin of the GIS-era at the BOKU. Since that time the importance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in research and education has increased at the BOKU. The present publication documents in an overview the historical development and the state of the art of GIS in research and education at the "University of Life" (BOKU).
Zusammenfassung
Im Jahr 1987 wurde das GIS-Zeitalter an der Universität für Bodenkultur Wien (BOKU) mit der Installation der GIS-Software ARCInfo eingeleitet. Dies war die erste Installation dieser Software auf einer österreichischen Universität. Seither haben Geographische Informations-Systeme (GIS) in den Lehr- und Forschungaktivitäten der BOKU immer mehr an Stellenwert gewonnen. Der gegenständliche Artikel dokumentiert in Überblicksform die geschichtliche Entwicklung sowie den derzeitigen Stand von GIS in Lehre und Forschung an der "Universität des Lebens" (BOKU).
